Fjords, Waterfalls and Trolls: Travelling in Norway
You will drive along Lake Hornindalsvatnet, the deepest lake in Europe, and take a cruise on the famous Geirangerfjord, listed as one of the world's most beautiful fjords on the UNESCO World Heritage List. From the ship’s deck you will admire “the Seven Sisters” and “the Suitor” waterfalls and see dairy farms on the emerald shores of the fjord.
Next, you will head to the Gudbrandsjuvet ravine with its beautiful waterfalls and then directly to the famous Trollstigen mountain road. You will have the opportunity to take short walks to the viewpoints along Trollstigen with its famous waterfalls and, if time allows, even hike part of the Troll Ladder on foot.
Arrival in the fjord-side town of Åndalsnes at the foot of the mountain with the Trollstigen Road. After a short lunch break, continue the trip to the highest sheer cliff in Northern Europe, the Troll Wall (if time permits). You will also see the emerald waters of the Rauma river.
Upon arrival in Geiranger you will be treated to a series of scenic viewpoints over the fjord, including the Eagle Road, Flydalsjuvet and Dalsnibba, the last of which has snow that doesn't melt even in summer! The bravest can take a short walk along the SkyWalk trail at the edge of the cliff.
Return to Olden via the scenic mountain road, driving along the mountain serpentine of Gamle Strynefjellsvegen.

One of the most famous Norwegian Scenic Routes, Trollstigen, 'The Troll Ladder', is a visual masterpiece. Trollstigen includes 11 steep bends and rises to a height of 850 metres above sea level. At the top of Trollstigen platform, there are several viewpoints with spectacular views of the Stigfossen waterfall.
The impressive Trollveggen, 'The Troll Wall', has Europe's highest vertical drop, around 1,000 metres. It's part of the Trolltindane range, 'the Troll Peaks', in Romsdalen valley in Fjord Norway. The world famous Rauma railway passes right by!
Geirangerfjord is one of Norway's most famous and beautiful fjords and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Impressive waterfalls, such as “the Seven Sisters” and “the Suitor” cascade down steep mountainsides.
Viewpoints:
- Eagle Road – is the name given to the steepest stretch of road up the mountain side from Geiranger towards Eidsdal. It was called Eagle Road because at its highest point it passed through terrain that had traditionally been the domain of a large number of eagles.
- Flydalsjuvet offers an impressive view and is an excellent point for photography, with a view over Geiranger and Geirangerfjorden.
- Dalsnibba viewpoint offers Europe’s highest fjord views - at 1,500 metres. Enjoy amazing views of Geirangerfjord and snow-capped mountains.
Past stone walls and guard stones, The Norwegian Scenic Route Gamle Strynefjellsvegen runs, a total distance of 27 km. Built in 1894, it allows you to see unspoilt mountain scenery and traditional stone walls.
