Why this tour
  • Picturesque landscapes
  • Impressions to last a lifetime
  • Affordability
In one hour, the train rises from sea level at Aurlandsfjord in Flom to the mountain station of Myrdal at 867 metres above sea level. During the journey you can enjoy some of the most scenic views in Western Norway.
The 20-kilometre journey showcases the magnificence of Norwegian nature, and the railway itself is an outstanding example of Norwegian engineering.
From the cosy compartment of a vintage train you can enjoy the changing scenery of the Flom valley. The train passes through farmland, the old village centre of Flom and the old church before ascending into the inaccessible parts of the valley. The sparkling blue river accompanies the train most of the way, and you will see small farms in places where it seems no-one could live.
The train makes a five-minute stop at the Kjosfossen waterfall so that passengers can step onto the platform and take photos.
Sights
The Flom railway is one of the steepest in the world and is famous for its breathtaking bridges and tunnels winding among the mountains. Remarkably, 18 of the 20 tunnels were built by hand.

The train follows a construction road used to transport materials from the fjord to the mountains during the construction of the Bergen Line around 1900. This road is known as the Rallar Road, or Navvies’ road, and is now a popular cycling route from Finse to Flom.
