Fairytale Ålesund and The Troll Ladder Adventure
Your tour begins with a visit to the enchanting town of Ålesund, known for its Art Nouveau architecture and picturesque setting on five islands. You'll stroll across the bridges of the city's small bays and ascend to the Aksla viewpoint where you can look out over the city and the surrounding mountains.
Next, continue your journey into the realm of Trolls. You will drive along the picturesque coastline of Storfjorden, stop at Gudbrandsjuvet ravine with its beautiful waterfalls and head straight to the famous Trollstigen mountain road. You will have the opportunity to take short walks to the viewpoints along Trollstigen with its famous waterfalls and, if time permits, even hike part of the way along the Troll Ladder on foot.
Arrival in the fjord-side town of Åndalsnes at the foot of the mountain with the Troll Ladder.
You have the option to take the cable car to the top of Mount Nesaksla, 708 meters above sea level. Here, you will be greeted with a 360-degree panoramic view of the Romsdal mountains, the center of Åndalsnes, lush fertile valleys, and the emerald waters of the Rauma River. There is a good restaurant for lunch on the mountain.
If you wish, you can take a short hike directly from the mountain top to the Rampestreken viewpoint (20 min each way).
After a short lunch break, continue your trip to the highest vertical cliff in Northern Europe "The Troll Wall". You will also see the emerald waters of the Rauma River and take a walk by the waterfall near the famous Kylling Bridge ("Chicken Bridge"). The bridge is suspended 60 metres above the emerald-green River Rauma.
Famous for its Art Nouveau architecture, Ålesund is the cultural centre of the Sunnmøre region. A devastating fire in 1904 left much of Ålesund in ashes. The rebuilding resulted in a city that contains some of Europe's best examples of Art Nouveau architecture.
